Tiaoxi Bridge Monitoring Project
Project Background

The bridge was constructed in 2005 and has been in service for 17 years up to now. It is located near a cement plant, where hundreds of concrete mixer trucks pass over it daily. These heavy vehicles typically weigh up to several dozen tons, and their repeated crossings cause irreversible damage to the bridge structure.
Project Solution

As the bridge’s service life increases, its structural stiffness decreases. There is a need for focused monitoring of both the dynamic and static deflections of the bridge. Visual strain monitoring systems should be installed at the bridge piers. Real-time monitoring should also be conducted at 1/4 and 1/2 span locations to measure the real-time dynamic and static deflection conditions.
Project Outcomes

Since the implementation of the project, the data has remained stable. The system can accurately capture fluctuations in bridge data when heavy vehicles pass by. Based on the dynamic and static deflection indicators, it has been observed that the bridge exhibits signs of aging.
